Anderson Silva offered to fight at UFC 151 to save card
According to MMA Fighting, Silva, through his manager, reached out to White shortly after the UFC announced they were cancelling the entire UFC 151 card because headliner Jon Jones declined a bout with replacement fighter Chael Sonnen.
MMA Fighting reports that “White said he never expected Silva to offer his services and appreciated the offer.”
Silva’s offer to take a fight to save the card came too late as the UFC had already announced the event’s cancellation, but it didn’t come too late to improve his standing within the UFC and with fans.
Silva, the consensus top fighter in the world, is coming off a July 7 win over Chael Sonnen. He doesn’t have a fight scheduled for the rest of the year. Jones is set to face Vitor Belfort on Sept. 22 as his makeup fight.
