Cowboys’ Josh Brent charged with intoxicated manslaughter after teammate Jerry Brown dies in car crash
Police say the accident occurred around 2:20 a.m. Saturday in Irving. Brent reportedly was speeding when his car hit a curb and flipped. When police arrived on the scene, they found Brent trying to pull Brown from the car, which was on fire.
Brent failed a field sobriety test and was given a blood test at a hospital. He had minor injuries, and his charges were upgraded after Brown died.
Brown and Brent were teammates at the University of Illinois. Brent has 35 tackles on the season for the Cowboys. Brown was signed to the practice squad in late October, but never was part of the active roster.
What’s troubling about Brent’s role in the crash is that he has a prior DWI. He pleaded guilty for driving while intoxicated in 2009 and sentenced to two years probation, 60 days in jail, and 200 hours of community service.
