NHL Denies Al-Jazeera Media Passes

The NHL may be begging for publicity, but at least they have limits when it comes to whom they let cover the sport. One such media outlet that failed to make the cut for Stanley Cup credentials was Al-Jazeera.

Al-Jazeera has no one at the Stanley Cup finals, its credential request having been turned down. Given the paucity of non-aligned (i.e. Southern California) newspapers from the States covering the final between the Anaheim Ducks and Ottawa Senators — the Philadelphia Inquirer, Boston Globe, both Denver papers, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, New York Daily News and the Buffalo News have been spotted through three games — you might have thought the NHL would have been happy to reach a, hmmm, really non-traditional hockey market, but, alas, that didn’t happen.

Maybe they were trying to avoid confusion amongst all the bearded men. At least we know this much; the NHL has its standards and won’t sell out to just anyone. Besides, if anyone’s breaking out with glocks at a game, it’s going to be Snoop, not an Arabian reporter terrorist.
