Astros P Wilton Lopez does ‘Lo Viste’ gesture after hitting Hanley Ramirez

Astros relief pitcher Wilton Lopez stuck it to the Marlins on Wednesday by doing their gesture after hitting Hanley Ramirez with a pitch in the 7th inning of a 5-3 loss. Ramirez stared down Lopez as he walked to first. Astros manager Brad Mills decided to pull Lopez after the hit batsman, and that’s when Lopez glanced to the Marlins dugout and did the gesture you see above.

The gesture is something the Marlins have been doing the past two seasons, and it’s called “Lo Viste.” It was started by Emilio Bonifacio during his 26-game hitting streak last year, but the team didn’t break it out often because they didn’t have much to celebrate as a last-place team. “Lo Viste” means “did you see that?” in Spanish, and it’s shown with a “V” up to the eyes.

Lopez was apparently still upset with Ramirez for pimping a home run against him in Miami last month, and that was his retaliation. Ozzie Guillen didn’t think much of it.

“Very mature,” Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen said sarcastically when asked about the incident. “He’s lucky I wasn’t Hanley. I would have chased his [rear] all the way to Puerto Rico.”

Bottom line: If you celebrate your accomplishments, don’t be surprised when it gets thrown right back at you.
