Bob Costas rips into Pedro Strop (Video)
Legendary broadcaster Bob Costas must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.
Calling Friday night’s Cubs-Cardinals game for MLB Network, Costas absolutely tore apart Chicago reliever Pedro Strop after Strop gave up the game-tying home run in the 8th inning to Cardinals shortstop Greg Garcia. While Garcia’s homer was smoked to dead center, Costas’ comments came straight out of left field.
You stay classy, San Diego. While Strop definitely deserved some criticism after the blown hold in which he allowed three of the four Cardinals batters he faced to reach base (the Cubs would go on to lose the game in extras by the final of 3-2), Costas really seemed to have gone beyond the boundaries of good taste and professionalism with that one. That felt personal, and it was pretty apparent that he was irked by Strop pointing to the sky (not the first time such a move disturbed someone on a baseball field).

To quote J. Danforth Quayle, “That was really uncalled for, Senator.”
