David Ortiz and Kevin Gregg Fight Video

David Ortiz and Kevin Gregg got into the baseball fight of the season Friday night. The tension began early in the 8th inning at-bat when Ortiz stared out at Gregg after the first pitch was thrown inside. The next pitch was also inside. Ortiz pointed at Gregg and took a few steps towards him, causing both dugouts to clear. After things were settled, Gregg got Ortiz to fly out, sparking this brawl:

Given all the swinging and missing, I’m surprised this didn’t happen at a Padres-Nationals game. Seriously though, that’s easily our best baseball fight of the year (not counting this awesome minor league brawl). Few fights will top the high school football brawl we posted this week, but that is close, in terms of baseball fights.

Kevin Gregg and David Ortiz were both ejected as you could imagine. Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Jim Johnson also got tossed. Suspensions should be expected as well.

UPDATE: The Orioles players seemed to be most upset by Ortiz swinging 3-0 in a 10-3 game.

Beat me to the punch LB you got yours hooked up on Yardbarker. Pretty insane brawl Gregg had to have said something as well. Cant wait to hear Papi’s comments later.

Oh yeah, it started early in the at-bat, that’s why there was some beef. Ortiz seemed out of line to me.

they both looked like pussies who cannot fight stick to baseball guys !!!

Stick to baseball indeed, they have a higher batting average than a slugging average.  How is it that “men” who can hit a round ball with a round bat at 90+ mph, cannot hit an object standing right in front of them?

That’s exaclty waht I was thinking. They both fight like girls.

Typical Red Sox reaction…..gang up on the opposing player and try to do serious harm.Remember Varitek fighting with ARod…wearing all his catching gear, face mask included.real manly.

Props to Matt Wieters for catching the throw from Adam Jones and then protecting his pitcher.

If the MLB really wanted to make baseball even more popular (and all other sports), what they should do is if there is a fight, even sissy one like this, that you roll out a fight cage behind home plate ( center ice, 50yd line, etc), and throw them in there, the winner will get their team an additional run for the victory, 2 for a submission, and 3 for a knockout.   The loser will be the one who is suspended.

And during night games, throw them in a cage with no light, and let them duke it out in the dark when they can’t even see each other.

I think its so funny how every professional athlete who gets into a fight never lands there punches. Aren’t they suppose to have amazingly good hand-eye coordination?
