Jerry Coleman Padres

Former MLB All-Star, military serviceman, broadcaster and World Series MVP Jerry Coleman died on Sunday at the age of 89.

The San Diego Padres, for whom Coleman served as a manager in 1980 and broadcaster from 1972-2013 (save the year he managed), announced the news over Twitter:

Coleman received the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasting excellence in 2005. He was a Marine aviator and received numerous awards for his service in World War II and the Korean War, including two distinguished flying crosses. He was nicknamed “The Colonel” because of the military rank he achieved.

Coleman died of complications after a fall.

We’ll hang a star on your life, Jerry.
