Mike Napoli gets his tan on at Fenway Park

Mike-Napoli-John-Lackey-tanning

The Boston Red Sox are gearing up for Game 1 the ALCS against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, and by all indications the team is feeling pretty relaxed. That is especially true for Mike Napoli, who enjoyed the beautiful weather in Boston on Friday by sunning himself on the pitcher’s mound at Fenway Park.

WBZ-TV producer Joe Giza first captured the photo you see above, which seems to show Napoli and John Lackey getting a feel for the angle of the sun to figure out where they should spread out their beach towels. Napoli figured it out:

Elsewhere, Ryan Dempster hit golf balls across the field while David Ross and Jake Peavy brushed the beard of the team’s cigar store Indian, which has become an important staple within the clubhouse.

To outsiders, this may look like ignorance from a group of players who have a crucial series starting in just over 24 hours. Those who have followed the team know that are plenty concerned with winning, they just have fun along the way. And if Napoli ends up putting his shirt back on at some point (it has come off during every celebration this year), we hope wardrobe selection rivals the shirt we wore on Christmas a couple years ago.
