Report: 76ers plan to pursue Harrison Barnes

The Philadelphia 76ers finally sound prepared to start bringing in some high-priced big names.

According to Marc Stein and Marc J. Spears of ESPN, The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to make a “serious push” for Warriors forward Harrison Barnes when free agency opens on Friday.

The Sixers, it is noted, actually have over $40 million to spend just to hit the league’s salary floor, so you can expect them to be active players over the summer.

Barnes is a restricted free agent, meaning the Warriors will be able to match any offer for him within three days of it being tabled. He would likely be one of the roster casualties should they lure Kevin Durant away from Oklahoma City, but if they fail in that pursuit, keeping Barnes will become a top priority for them.

Barnes’s agent has also reportedly met with Danny Ainge and the Celtics, though it’s not clear that Barnes was the subject of that meeting. Whatever the case, he’s in line for a max contract from someone this summer.
