Darko Milicic: ‘If I have to go kill someone on the court, I’ll kill someone on the court’

Darko Milicic is the definition of a draft bust. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2003 NBA draft, Milicic has averaged only 6.0 points and 4.2 rebounds per game over his nine-year career. He’s played for five different teams and disappointed all of them, with his last coach blasting him for being a slouch. The Celtics have decided to take a chance on Darko and see if he can help their front court, and he said he is willing to do whatever it takes to contribute. No, literally — whatever it takes.

“I’m done trying to prove I’m the No. 2 pick and that (expletive) stuff,” Milicic told A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE.com. “This year, it’s all about Celtics, to show that I am a team player. It’s not about me. It’s about us as a team. I’ll do whatever it takes, whatever I need to do to help this team. So now, if I have to go kill someone on the court, I’ll kill someone on the court.”

Easy, big fella. Boston is hoping Darko can provide a big body off the bench to eat up a few fouls and possibly grab a couple of rebounds. If they can get that, the signing paid off. No one has to die.

English is Milicic’s second language, so it’s possible the comment didn’t come out the way he wanted it to. Perhaps he was trying to say something similar to what Kevin Garnett said about dying on the court if he had to, but dying and killing are entirely different concepts. But hey, Doc Rivers might love the enthusiasm.
