DeMarcus Cousins downplays beef with George Karl on Instagram
Rumors of supposed strife between Kings head coach George Karl and franchise center DeMarcus Cousins have been greatly exaggerated. At least that’s what the latter would like us all to believe.
Cousins took to Instagram on Tuesday to put down talk of the presumed hostility between the two that has dominated headlines all summer. In the picture posted to Cousins’ account, he is smiling as he puts his arm around an also-grinning Karl. Vice president Vlade Divac and general manager Mike Brantz are present in the shot as well.
Boogie’s caption read: “Give them something to talk about….?”
Ironically, the Kings have done exactly that this offseason. Amongst other things, rumblings of a Cousins-Karl Cold War have been prevalent in the news for months now. It mostly stemmed from Karl’s reported push to trade the 24-year-old center and growing louder from there. Even Divac himself admitted that the relationship was “not pretty,” and the first encounter between the two this offseason was a bit awkward to say the least.
Cousins and Karl may be adamant that there is no feud. And Divac may just be a world-class conflict mediator. But though this is certainly a step in the right direction, we feel like the problems in Sacramento go well beyond what posing for one photo on Instagram can solve. When the two famously strong personalities unavoidably butt heads over the course of the regular season, it will be interesting to see who blinks first.
Is it possible for snakes in the grass to smile?
