Kevin Durant on Monday conceded that he is happy the Warriors lost in the NBA Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers. And the reason is pretty simple: had Golden State not lost, Durant would have been less likely to consider signing with the team, and the Warriors would have been less desperate when recruiting him.
Durant shared his thoughts on the subject during a panel at Stanford. The San Jose Mercury News’ Anthony Slater shared Durant’s comments:
Interesting quote from Kevin Durant on watching the Warriors in Game 7 of the Finals and whether he would've come if they won pic.twitter.com/3LiOEnaLCC

In addition to Durant saying he was glad the Warriors lost Game 7 to the Cavs, the former NBA MVP also said the thought of getting open shots and layups was appealing to him. While that makes plenty of sense, it certainly won’t dispel the notion that Durant left OKC to take the easy way out to a title. That’s exactly why people like Charles Barkley had this to say about KD signing with the Warriors.
