Report: Florida interested in Josh McDaniels as head coach

Josh-McDaniels

Could New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels be the next head coach of the Florida Gators?

According to a report from FootballScoop.com, Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley is interested in McDaniels as a potential candidate to replace Will Muschamp.

Most of the success McDaniels has had in his career has come while working under Bill Belichick. After working as an assistant with the Patriots from 2001 to 2008, McDaniels landed a job as the head coach of the Denver Broncos. The gig didn’t last long, as he was fired after compiling an 11-17 record in less than two full seasons.

McDaniels then spent one season as the offensive coordinator with the St. Louis Rams before returning to the Patriots during the 2011 postseason. He interviewed for the Cleveland Browns head coaching job last year but didn’t have any luck.

Some — myself included — wonder how much of McDaniels’ success is owed to Belichick and Tom Brady. We have seen plenty of Belichick disciples (Charlie Weis, Eric Mangini, etc.) leave the Patriots and fall flat on their faces. Florida would certainly be taking a risk.
