Aaron Hernandez’s maids say they found guns in his home

Aaron Hernandez

Two women who did some housekeeping work inside Aaron Hernandez’s North Attleboro home testified on Monday that they found guns on multiple occasions while working for the former New England Patriots tight end.

Marilia Prinholato and her boss, Grazielli Silva, testified that they found weapons while organizing Hernandez’s clothes and tidying his home. Prinholato told prosecutors she found a “big” gun while making the bed in Hernandez’s guest bedroom. Silva said she happened upon firearms on multiple occasions — two times in his sock drawer and once when she found a small handgun in a pair of khakis that Hernandez had left on the floor of his master bedroom.

“I picked up the pants to put them away,” Silva said, according to Bob McGovern of the Boston Herald. “They were heavy. I put my hands inside, and I felt there was a gun.”

Silva also described the alleged behavior of Shayanna Jenkins, Hernandez’s girlfriend and the mother of his child, on June 18, 2013 — the day after Odin Lloyd was murdered. Silva said Jenkins appeared distracted and was having trouble maintaining a conversation.

“She was nervous,” Silva explained. “I could see she had cried before.”

On Tuesday, jurors watched a series of surveillance clips that showed Jenkins walking out of Hernandez’s home with what appeared to be a heavy black trash bag and placing it into the trunk of a car. Prosecutors believe she was disposing of the .45 caliber Glock that was used to kill Lloyd, among other things.

According to the Hartford Courant, another housekeeper, Carla Barbosa, testified that it was the housekeepers’ responsibility to take out the trash at Hernandez’s home. Barbosa said June 18 was the first time she had ever seen Hernandez or Jenkins take out the trash themselves.

And that’s not all. Part of Silva’s testimony also created inconsistencies in what Shaneah Jenkins — Shayanna’s sister and Lloyd’s former girlfriend — said earlier in the trial. Prosecutors showed the jury a $300 check that Shayanna Jenkins had given Silva for her services on June 18, 2013. When Shaneah asked Shayanna where she was going with the black trash bag that day, she says Shayanna told her she needed to get cash to pay the housekeepers.

On the surface, the trial does not appear to have gotten off to a great start for Hernandez. At least one key piece of evidence was recently allowed by the judge residing over the case, and Jenkins has been granted immunity and could be called to testify against Hernandez. At the very least, one would think Hernandez is going to be convicted on gun charges.
