Brett Favre announces he will return to Lambeau Field next season
The long-anticipated return of Brett Favre to Lambeau Field will take place during the 2015 season.
On Monday, Favre announced on his official website that he will return as a guest of the Green Bay Packers next season for a jersey retirement ceremony.
“I’m pleased to announce that I will be returning to Green Bay, Wisconsin in 2015 for induction into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and retirement of my jersey,” Favre wrote. “It was a tremendous honor to play 16 years for the Green Bay Packers. Now to have my name placed among others such as Starr, Hornung, Kramer, Taylor, Lambeau, Nitschke, Lombardi, Davis, White and Hutson is a special honor that I share with all of my teammates and coaches, and that would not have been possible but for the foresight of Ron Wolf, the greatest GM In the history of the NFL.
“I’m truly looking forward to celebrating and sharing this special moment with all of the great fans of the Green Bay Packers.”
Favre was scheduled to return to Lambeau back in October for the Packers’ game against the Chicago Bears, but the ceremony was postponed due to health issues Packers legend Bart Starr was experiencing.
We knew this was coming eventually. Despite concerns about the way Packers fans would react to Favre coming back, there’s no chance the boos outweigh the cheers. Favre spent 16 seasons in Green Bay, won a Super Bowl there and is one of the best quarterbacks in Packers history. He deserves to be honored whether he embarrassed himself at the end of his Packers career or not.
