Chip Kelly doesn’t think Carlos Hyde will play Week 7 against Bucs

The San Francisco 49ers have stumbled to a 1-5 start to the season and now could be without their lone consistent offensive contributor for Week 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Niners head coach Chip Kelly said on Wednesday that it would be “a stretch” for running back Carlos Hyde to play on Sunday versus the Bucs, per Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Hyde, who has rushed for 429 yards and six touchdowns in the team’s first six games in 2016, exited with a shoulder injury in a loss to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday. Though he eventually returned to the game, the Ohio State product missed practice this week and was spotted with his right arm in a sling.

Durability has long been a concern for Hyde, who missed a total of 11 games in his first two seasons in the league. If he is indeed unable to go on Sunday, it would continue a significant reshuffling of the Niners offense as of late.
