Clay Matthews: I’m not a dirty player, I’m an awesome player

Clay-Matthews-Single-Season-Sack-RecordGreen Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews took a few days to think about it, but he finally came up with a brilliant response to San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh criticizing him over his late hit on Colin Kaepernick. Many people have accused Matthews of being a dirty player after he launched himself through the air and took out Kaepernick. To those people, Matthews has this to say.

“I’m an awesome player,” he told reporters on Thursday, via Around the League. “I’m not a dirty player.”

I guess that settles that.

“I think my resume’s pretty good right now,” Matthews added. “I think we’re doing all right.”

While Matthews would score very low on the modesty scale, he has a point. He is one of the best pass rushers in the game and doesn’t exactly have an Ndamukong Suh-like track record when it comes to disciplinary action from the league. He was slapped with a $5,000 fine once for a uniform violation and the same amount another time for grabbing Jay Cutler’s facemask. Dirty? No. A bit conceited? It would seem so.
