David Tyree Thinks Gay Marriage Will Lead to ‘Anarchy’ (Video)

Former New York Giants receiver David Tyree had an interview with the National Organization for Marriage, an organization whose mission is “to protect marriage and the faith communities that sustain it.” NOM was formed in opposition to the gay marriage movement. Tyree’s words are in contrast to the movement we’ve seen in sports recently. Hockey player Sean Avery supports gay marriage, while the San Francisco Giants and NBA player Steve Nash also support gays. The former Giants Super Bowl hero does not.

Here is a video of David Tyree’s interview with NOM along with the key points transcribed below. During the interview, he says that we are redefining marriage and that passing gay marriage bills is wrong. Here is his interview:

In his interview, Tyree says “I believe that marriage is the only relationship that actually mirrors a relationship with God.” He added that he’s disappointed more players don’t use their platform to speak out against gay marriage which he termed as something “near to God’s heart.”

“It’s not about establishing a theocracy, it’s about what’s right,” Tyree says. “How can marriage be marriage for thousands of years and now all of a sudden because an influential minority has a push or an agenda and totally reshapes something that was not founded in our country, not founded by men, and it’s something that’s holy and sacred. I think there’s nothing more honorable than fighting for, especially if we really care about our future generations.”

“If they pass this gay marriage bill … this will be the beginning of our country sliding toward — it’s a strong word — but anarchy. The moment we have, and if you trace back to other cultures, other countries, that will be the moment where our society itself loses its grip with what’s right. … Marriage is the backbone of society, so if you redefine it, it changes the way we educate our children, it changes the perception of what is good, what is right, what is just.”

Explaing what gay marriage means, Tyree said “It says you don’t need a mother or father. You can’t teach something that you don’t have. Two men will never be able to show a woman how to be a woman. That’s simple common sense.”

Tyree obviously has an agenda and with such strong words, his message is going to get out there. Unfortunately, it’s a message that is extremely narrowminded and one with which we disagree.

Thanks to TMZ for the heads up

Lol.. Christian community makes me laugh. It’s the “everything except what we believe in is a sin”… “If you do anything against what a book says you’re going to hell.”… Blah, blah, blah… Well, I’m sorry, and it’s going to hurt, but there is scientific evidence that you are born under that sexuality. Homosexual, heterosexual, bisexual. None of these are choices, they are merely how our brain is wired at birth, like some people are born with depression, some are not… The best way to think about it is still like a computer, and we have as much choice in our wiring as a computer does in it…  Now, if anyone wants to trash me with the god talk, go for it, but I’m agnostic… I do believe in a god, just none of the gods in the world.. If we are that badly designed, then he(or she) will kill us off. Yes, there’s the diseases that could be said are doing it, however, said diseases also affect heterosexuals. Think about it, and come up with a logical response, not hiding behind god and hoping his word will fight your battles for you ;)

I didnt mean to click like this statement…I totally disagree, if you were listening caefully other sins are mentioned in this discussion; it just so happens that homosexuality is the topic. faith is something you have to chose, do you really think GOD would make it so easy! no because he wants you to have faith in him, love him, and search for the truth! because he promised greatness to the ones who praise and honor him. he does provide help along the way to prove his exsistence, but it’s for you to see it. some need more but all i need is to look at the sun, moon trees, and all other things that man try but will never be able to create. Isa. 40:22 states he who dwells above the circle of the earth, before man even knew what shape the earth was GOD told you first! the bible also states the earth hangs upon nothing. but look how much money NASA wasted just to see something that was already quoted in the bible. So many people starving; and their going to the moon go figure. the bible is not a myth!

I couldn’t have said it better. God’s word is for every single one of us, to accept or reject.  Like most who give it little or no credence, you left something out though. It was written by men of God, inspired by God.

When will people come to understand and accept that NOT EVERYONE agrees with the gay lifestyle? And why do people who support it give them a hard time, calling them bigots or narrow minded? What makes supporters of gay marriage right? You have no choice but to respect the beliefs of those who do not agree or outright oppose gays, otherwise you are a bigot and a narrow minded person yourself. God will judge every human on earth in the future righteous or unrighteous. And who are we to question God as to his decisions?

Ignorance will catch up with gay men soon. Wouldn’t surprise me if an epidemic of anal cancer occurs. With no cure for cancer anywhere in sight, men may wake up then…or not. But it will be too late.

Gays don’t want people to ACCEPT homosexuality, they want them to EMBRACE it. Nor do they want equality. They want advantage. Getting “married” will not make them any more normal. Homosexuality is NOT normal regardless of how often or loudly they tell the lie.

Hey, I have no problem with people living by the Bible … but don’t tell everyone they have to live that way because the Bible says. It’s not that important to other folks and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Why is it that it is okay for gays to push their veiwpoints  on others, but when somebody has a contrary opinion they are quickly labeled bigots?

GOD discipline’s his lost sheep so they can find their way back to him, if  you don’t find GOD…possibly you are not one of GOD’s people. their is no understanding to those who dont want understanding, which leads to knowledge and wisdom. You need to pray…

“sigh”….Let’s start from the top shall we?
1st-Calling anyone names or making any derogatory insult instantly loses your credibility, so let’s refrain from that. (theophilus_cp has been the best at being professional, and I applaud that. Its something most people on both sides of the argument lack.)
2nd-The first thing that really stood out was the comparison to Slaves. Homosexuals do not deal with the same problems. Compare myself to a homosexual…He has freedom of speech just like I do (As long as our speech does not take that right away from the other) He can go to the same school as I do. He can use the same public facilities as I can. He gets paid the same wage as I do. He gets the same Medical and Insurance policies as I do. Blacks had none of those rights. Granted, He can’t marry his spouse/lover/boyfriend,etc,etc, but he still is entitled to everything else.
3rd- A little history lesson….Blacks did not move to remove slavery. There were some of them who stood up and fought it, but only in the Northern states. Slavery was trying to be removed by WHITE men in the north. That’s part of the reason the civil war was fought, STATE’S RIGHTS. he south felt they should have the rights to do what they wanted in their own state. They had to follow other state’s laws when they went their, but they wanted control of their own affairs….that’s a VERY brief history of the abolishment of slavery.
4th- I am not a bigot towards it (my best buddy  lived with his aunts who were arguably the nicest people I have ever met, so “aggressively religious” people can’t argue that they are all evil people.) Religious arguers cannot bash the homosexuals as being “Sick, disgusting freaks”. However, on the other end of the spectrum, Homosexuals cannot bash religious people for believing what they believe in (again theophilus_cp, I haven’t heard one hateful thing so far) You have to preach non-violence to gain a foothold in moving towards gay rights. there are tons of people on the fence about the issue, and insulting them will not help you. The best example I saw of the wrong way about doing this was in California about 1-2 years ago? I cant remember, but in short, LBGTs had put worth the marriage bill and had been throwing huge demonstrations to promote it (peaceful demonstrations were a good thing) the bill Failed 60%:40%…The gay population had an eruption of hate. I heard comments about how much of A**holes people were and how they had been cruelly mistreated and they demanded the bill be immediately re-voted on and/or put on the next ballot in 3 months or so…wrong way….you lost….a lot of bills in Congress don’t pass the 1st time, they take YEARS to get passed. Do some more peaceful promotions and try again next year, that is your best chance. 5th-If your going to comment on the bible, please state a passage/verse, etc,etc to show where you got the quote. Supposedly the Bible promotes rape and murder…. show it. Granted, not everything that is in the book should be applied to real life or taken into consideration, but you have to put something into context. Ex. the value of a $1 bill in 2010 does not have the same value as a $1 bill from 1920. They believed in stoning someone to death. Today, our version is the Electric chair. COMPARE and CONTRAST. Now I guarantee 1000% that I will receive numerous hate comments from either side for my comments. Let’s have a civilized conversation please? Like I said, insults or anything of the like (If you can’t say it to your mother then you can’t say it here) will cause you to lose all credibility. Sure, you may not agree with what I’ve said or what I say, but I have been calm and collected, debating with “logical” statements, not hate words. I apologize if I offended anyone based on my being un-politically correct. Now let’s have a nice, reasonable debate…If I think of anything else I will post it. feel free to discuss or ask me questions or give me your “calm and collected” opinions. Just no hateful words. I hope everybody has a nice weekend :)

no one is alienated gay’s, jesus did help all people, and he perform many miracles, but the fact is according to GOD and the bible homosexuality is wrong. just cause two people love each other dont make it right. just like when someone cheat on their husband or wife, if they claim they love each other does that make it right? no one hates homosexuals, I dont hate anyone, but if what they are doing is not accepted by GOD it’s wrong point blank. We all have struggles and weaknesses to over come, we cant let them take us over, nothing is stronger than GOD, if you call to him he will answer prayer is the only answer it can defeat anything, we need to pray for understanding.

If they did the world would be a better place , look at the condition of the earth because people ignored Gods word and leaned upon their own understanding, now that man has made a total mess they want to blame GOD..no blame yourselves for not listening. look at the news, the world is getting worse every minute, men did not write  the bible, only wrote the words of GOD, so we could read and understand what he requires, do you really think it was man’s idea alone to write such a book; look how long it took, many of the men did not know each other, they came from different walks of life, lived in different times, but look how harmonious the bible turned out to be. we cant even balance a check book how can you think we can accomplish such greatness on our own.

  • Anonymous

I’ve already provided the entire book of which I’ve quoted.  It really doesn’t matter the specific line…it’s your bible.

Side note:  I mean really, seriously, I don’t understand this.  Often, as in conversations as with this chat, I state/quote a verse/text of YOUR bible.  Why do “you” always need me to tell you exactly the location in YOUR book….or..why don’t you already KNOW this verse?  Have you not actually read YOUR book in its entirety?

I honestly believe that a majority of people who say they are Christians don’t have the vaguest clue as to what is actually written in the bible.  Not to mention that, I doubt the vast majority has every bothered to read “their” book in its entirety.  If they did…I think there would be less christians..

NOW..BACK TO YOUR COMMENT…you need to first provide evidence that your “God” exists.  Then you can move on to the next step of proving that the bible is his word…then the last step, that the bible is the truth.

When you have that evidence ready…let me know.  I’ll listen.

  • tebanya2004

You’re right on all aspects except one. My tongue will not confess, for if my maker is truly there watching me, then (s)he will know of my sins already, and will judge me accordingly.

  • tebanya2004

After about 15 minutes of research.. I found the section he was talking about; Deuteronomy
22:28-29. “If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.”

And actually, there’s a lot of things like that in the bible that shows that rape and slavery is apparently okay. Deuteronomy
20:10-14 “When you march up to attack a city, make its people an offer of peace.  If they accept and open their gates, all the people in it shall be subject to forced labor and shall work for you. If they refuse to make peace and they engage you in battle, lay siege to that city.  When the LORD your God delivers it into your hand, put to the sword all the men in it.
As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in
the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves. And you may use
the plunder the LORD your God gives you from your enemies.”

Figured I’d give ya some actual passages to go look at.

  • tebanya2004

Wow… I think I read more of the bible researching for this than I read in my 3 years going to church when I was younger. All I have to say is this, if you follow the laws people are quoting off of, you better follow the laws of the entire sections… and then you’ll be punished by our up-to-date laws for being a moron. The sections saying homosexuality is wrong are those that are out dated, 3,000 years out dated infact… Give or take a few hundred years. Sorry christians, but you all need to go read your own book, and realize that these sections are out dated to this day-in-age.

We were both and all made by the same creator. If HE says you will confess, you WILL confess, like it or not, believe it or not. You, me nor anyone else has a say in the matter, so………………. let me know how that works out for you. Never mind, people who don’t grieve the Holy Spirit already know.

  • http://www.facebook.com/gaburke Gregg Burke

You can use holy books to preach hate about anything you want. Reality is that we are all gods children. All of us. Man poisoned the belief in god and wapred it gain poer and fortune. Now fools take the lies that were printed and use to justify hate and bigotry. Stop using god as an excuse for your own weakness and hatred. Marriage is now a cival instiution with legal protections that is the equality that is at stake. 50 years ago it was still illeagal in some states for whites and blacks to marry and people used the bible and god to justify that as well. Believe all of gods message and not just what you see fit.

Here we go. First and foremost, not one hateful word has has come from me or my keyboard in two days of reading and posting. Nothing but reaction to action from a Biblical viewpoint. If that is hate, your entire paste has zero merit, and I would go out on a limb here and say the majority here would agree with me. The topic here was a mans perspective on gay marriage from a Biblical perspective, and that is the part of the Bible I’ve referenced most here, because after all, it WAS the topic.  To be thoroughly honest, there a few other posters I responded to that were a little off the subject like yourself that required a different scripture to make the point, but for the most part I have remained on topic.I get the idea here that you are another of these pro gay marriage posters who give the scriptures little or no credence and have no understanding of the context in which the Bible was written. You call anyone who speaks on God’s authority about it a bigot, a basher, or a hater. Why is it you all feel so threatened to do that when your very creators words are used to reproach you? God hates sin, not the sinner. He loves each and every one of us the same, after all He created each of us individually. Again it is the SIN He hates. We are all God’s creation but not all His children, there is a big difference. Those who choose to revere Him and listen to reproach from Him and honor him, seek Him and come to love Him are His children. There will be a price to pay for not, and I myself don’t think the risks are worth the consequences.

“Marriage is now a civil, not cival, institution, not instiution with legal protections that is the equality that is at stake. Says you? Marriage is was and alwalys will be a divine institution ordained by God Himself. If you cant grip that, call it anything but marriage and go be happy. I choose to believe What the Holy Bible has to say about it as much as you choose not to.
     Hebrews 13:4  Marriage should be
honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. Enough said

  • tebanya2004

Actually, that’s false. I can think of one main passage that has been proven false by evidence; The world wide flood during Noah’s time, and the 2 animals thing.  It’s physically impossible to build a ship big enough to hold 2 of each animal, not have them killing each other, and not kill you. The other part about the flood is also false. While there is evidence of a flood that is so huge, it was one of the biggest in the area Noah was in, there is no evidence of a world wide flood. The other problem with this is it’s been proven the only way there would be enough water in a flooding format to do that is if an ice comet hit earth. Oh, but the story mentions that it rained for 40 days and 40 nights. Okay, so now you must take  into consideration that god must follow under the laws of nature as well, and if there was that much humidity in the air, Noah and the animals would drown just from trying to breathe.

Another biblical law that we do not see these days is this, “Women are not allowed to wear men’s clothing.” and visa versa. That one’s self explanatory and doesn’t need a huge speech. I think you might want to rethink your constant “word of god”.

  • tebanya2004

Okay, mainly because people are calling others bigots for speaking their own right, and the christian community is all over how this is so bad… It’s time to bring out some biblical verses, as that seemed to work last time.

    Matthew 7:1-5;
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged.  For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.     “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?  How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?
You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you
will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye”

Romans 2:1; You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else,
for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself,
because you who pass judgment do the same things.

Romans 14:10-13; You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.  It is written:
“‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me;    every tongue will acknowledge God.’”
So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.

Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up
your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a
    brother or sister.

(just a side note, as I know that phrase has been quoted once here against me, it says nothing about every tongue will confess sins, it says every tongue will acknowledge God.)

Corinthians 4:5; Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord
comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose
the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise
    from God.

James 5:9; Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!

Corinthians 2:11; For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them?
In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of
    God.

I suspect with these posted on the page, christians will be a little more humble, atleast that’s my hope. Everyone saying god will condemn us for being agnostic, homosexual, atheist, whatever, you are passing judgment you were not meant to pass, and should start living, and let live till their day comes.

You capitalize “he” like you want me to correct saying (s)he. Either way, I made a post at the bottom with the verse you’re quoting… I suspect you might want to re-read. It says nothing about ever tongue confessing, but rather every tongue will acknowledge god. I have acknowledged him/her. I am agnostic, I believe in a god, just not your god.

Actually his point was about a literal reading and following of the bible vs. a philosophical interpretation. Choosing to void it on a semantic mistake demonstrates a lack of desire to have an intellectual discussion or ‘choices’ made by Christians on which biblical points of view to follow.

All Christians do not interpret the bible in the same way – so I do not see the relevance of calling one group out.

And so using your argument, the bible definition of homosexuality may not be the same as the modern day usage?
