Eagles LB Casey Matthews Says Fans Harrassed Family, Made Fiancee Cry

Eagles linebacker Casey Matthews has had a rough season.  Over the past few games, he’s served mainly a special teams role.  He’s been bounced from outside linebacker to inside linebacker to eventually the bench.  The rookie was given a chance to start multiple times this season but hasn’t been able to put it together.  Unfortunately, Eagles fans took note of the fact that he has struggled.  What’s even more unfortunate is their decision to take it out on his family.

“I’m trying to,” Matthews said when asked about winning over Philly fans. “It’s hard. One of the earlier games, they harassed my family and made my fiancee cry. It’s tough. It’s frustrating. That’s just how they are here. If you win they love you, so I guess we’ve just got to turn things around and just start winning again.”

Does that surprise anyone?  These are the same fans who were chanting for their head coach to be fired just a couple weeks ago.  They also allegedly threw beer at the Giants bus earlier in the season.  Simply put, Eagles fans have had enough.  Many analysts picked them to win the NFC this season, which makes it even more difficult that their season has spiraled out of control.
It’s sad to say, but Matthews’ fiancee and family learned a valuable lesson.  Fans are ruthless.  If you’re going to sport your fiancee’s or uncle’s gear when you go to a game, you need to be prepared to hear it from the fans when things are going poorly.

This does not surprise me at all! These are the same fans that cheered when Michael Irvin went down with a career ending neck injury and threw ice balls at Santa!!!

  • Anonymous

They threw ice balls @ a drunken stand-in pulled from the stands to portray Santa.  So, it wasn’t really “Santa”.  As for Michael Irvin.  Didn’t know it was so serious when it happened.  Thought it was just another prima donna act from a coked up WR.  Oops.  My bad.

hizes,oh really? you work for the organization so you know it was a drunken stand in from the stands right??? Doubt it. Doesn’t matter who he was, it just shows lack of class in Philly fans. As far as the Michael Irvin thing goes shouldn’t you wait until you know whether its serious before you go cheering an injury??? Again lack of class. Obviously you’re a Philly fan so where do you get off talking down about Irvin like that? Mike Vick did prison time, i know for a fact Irvin never did. They should have thrown him to the dogs that he forced into fighting. AGAIN LACK OF CLASS!!! Dream Team, lol, more like a nightmare!!

As far as the Santa thing goes, it is fact.  ESPN did a story on it with interviews & everything.  They have this thing called history & research.  Real high tech stuff.  You can probably do an internet search on it from your moms basement.
Michael Irvin comment?  That was sarcasm.  I don’t want to see anyone hurt.  But, you know for a fact that he’s never done jail time?  Do you work for him?  Doubt it.
Won’t even comment on the Vick thing.

Im a Philly fan and also like the Cowboys. Its amazing that a guy gets beat half to death in San Fran and they hardly cover that but if it would have happened in Philly they would have broke into whatever your watching to report it. I see Boston fans throw things on the ice after Briun losses but I guess thats ok too…lol

Nope don’t know for sure that he’s never been to jail and for that matter neither do you but we both know thnat Vick’s done hard time and he should have never been allowed back in to the NFL.. u know it too that’s why you won’t comment. As far as the santa thing goes ok i stand corrected but that just makes Philly fans look worse, they threw not snowballs, but iceballs, with intent to harm at their own fellow fan!!! An iceball to the head could kill someone and that I know you could look up in your mom’s basement!! Admit it they have no class just like alot of their players!

Face it this article is about you guys the Philly fans harassing one of your own players and his family!! Please people this just a game this is not life or death and to go to these kinds of extremes just because he’s not performing the way you fans think he should is just unbelivable. You all need a quiet ,harmless, hobby. He’s Casey Matthews not Casey Anthony!

I know the facts and the facts are he was still a human being and I’m sure you yourself have been stumbling drunk in public at some point, does that mean you deserve to get critically injured for it????? I didn’t see where he was stumbling all over just ducking ice balls and fearing for his life!!! Poor Santa!!

Well really its not suprising. You have to understand that most fans in this town are uneducated and have the mind of a 6 yr old.

someone said you all act like uneducated 6 year olds. 6 year olds often resort to using “he did it too” as a defense, just so you know.

Then again the NFL has Jesus Christ Himself on it’s side now so Tebow will be along to counsel them and pray over them.

All I know is this: I was at that game, and after watching Matthews play, I wanted to cry too!

Irvin wasn’t MOVNNG you idiots.  That was one of the Top 10 Worst Moments in NFL History, seeing fans boo a player who might have been completely paralyzed.  Philly truly is a city full of class-less fans — hope they never win another championship in any sport again.  KARMA BABY!
