Missouri Governor Jay Nixon Lobbies for Danario Alexander with Coach Spagnuolo

For those of you who aren’t Missouri Tigers or St. Louis Rams fans, you probably don’t know who Danario Alexander is. Alexander is a 6’5″ receiver who played four years at Missouri and led the nation with 1,781 receiving yards his senior year. He went undrafted out of college because of a knee surgery he had leading up to the draft but the Rams signed him. Alexander was actually a recommended pickup in the weekly fantasy column this year after his 72-yard, one touchdown performance in week six.

Danario hasn’t done much this season, catching just 11 balls for 193 yards and the TD. We’ve expected big things from him but have come away disappointed, and apparently we’re not the only ones. As Rotoworld shared, Missouri Governor Jay Nixon told the St. Louis Post Dispatch he tried lobbying for more action for Alexander.

Nixon and Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo were on a flight together when Nixon gave his recommendation. “He said, ‘Put some plays in for Danario,’ ” Spagnuolo joked. “They’re going in now. They’re definitely going in. He’s got a lot of pull.” Nixon actually is familiar with Alexander because they rehabbed from knee surgery together on the college campus. Alexander has had five knee surgeries and Nixon is behind with three. Hopefully we’ll be able to recommend him again in the fantasy column — he’s a good player.
