Redskins accidentally gave $40,000 to ex-player, want it back

HB-Blades

Former NFL linebacker H.B. Blades made more money than he was supposed to make after he was released by the Washington Redskins, and the team is demanding that he pay back the difference.

TMZ reports that the Redskins have filed a lawsuit against Blades claiming they “mistakenly paid an additional $40,000 to Blades on Dec. 27, 2013 as a result of a clerical error.” According to the suit, the team gave Blades $40,000 in severance after he was cut in 2012. He was mistakenly given an additional check for $40,000 after receiving the original.

Blades has refused to give the additional $40,000 back, so the Redskins are taking him to court. The former Pittsburgh star was on Washington’s active roster from 2007-2010 and remained with the organization for two seasons after that.

Life isn’t easy for a practice squad player, and this former Patriots running back can tell you all about it. While it sounds like the Redskins made an honest mistake, who can blame Blades for trying to keep the money? I can’t say I wouldn’t do the same.
