Senator John Kerry Calls Bruins Goalie Tim Thomas ‘Tim O’Brien’ (Audio)
Why is it that so many politicians feel the need to act cool by showing off their knowledge of sports when they really are just faking it? You try to pretend like you know your stuff and then you end up butchering famous sports names like President Obama did.
Massachusetts senator John Kerry called into Gresh and Zo on The Sports Hub in Boston (LBS staff writer Del’s favorite station) to talk about the Bruins’ Stanley Cup run. When he was analyzing their run, he called goalie Tim Thomas “Tim O’Brien,” before pronouncing the name properly a few seconds later. Here’s audio of his gaffe:
Because he recovered so quickly, I think we can give him the benefit of the doubt and just allow that it was a momentary slip-up. Hey, at least he’s a senator and not a famous sports writer who made the same mistake last week. And really, just as long as nobody’s saying Varitek split the uprights, I’m fine with it.
