Chris Stigall basically said he should be fired for Phillies fan comments

Chris-Stigall

Chris Stigall, a morning radio host for a CBS AM affiliate in Philadelphia, made some despicable comments earlier this week about a 23-year-old Phillies fan who is battling a rare form of cancer. If you listen to what Stigall said, you’ll probably agree that CBS’ decision to fire him should not be a difficult one. And if Stigall was telling the truth when he went on an unrelated rant two weeks ago, he might as well just resign.

Stigall was discussing the Eric Garner incident earlier this month on his show when he said the NYPD should terminate Daniel Pantaleo — the officer who choked Garner to death — whether Pantaleo broke the law or not. This was Stigall’s reasoning.

“I could do something to break the rules of CBS protocol, but it would not necessarily be illegal,” Stigall explained. “But if it were very public the way I did it … For instance, we have behavior rules. My contract stipulates there are things I can’t do.

“If I do something morally questionable to embarrass the radio station. If it’s something in my private life I shouldn’t be doing, or on the job … let’s say I’m not breaking a law, but CBS says you’re carrying on in a way we don’t like.”

Would mocking a cancer survivor constitute carrying himself in a way that CBS doesn’t like? I suppose we’ll find out.

Here is the audio of Stigall’s rant from two weeks ago.
