ESPN: We did not steal from Tosh.0
ESPN says it did not get the idea for its “Awesome Video Segment” from Daniel Tosh’s popular “Web Redemption” feature, no matter how similar the two segments may seem.
On Wednesday, an ESPN spokesperson told TMZ that the similarities between “Awesome Video Segment” and “Web Redemption are a mere coincidence — even the use of the catchphrase, “Are you ready to give it another shot?”
“This was more of an instance of us using a common phrase than it was copying his wording,” the spokesperson said. “We know that doesn’t sound like the strongest explanation yet it’s the truth.
“We are looking forward to ‘giving it another shot’ in future installments of ‘The Awesome Video Segment.'”
If you haven’t seen Tosh rip ESPN to shreds with his Sport Science parody, you should watch the video here.
In my opinion, the wording used during the ESPN segment is a minor detail. Tosh is obviously the one who came up with the concept of interviewing people who have fallen victim to viral embarrassments. There’s no way ESPN didn’t get the idea from him.
