Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish seems to have perfected a variation of the eephus pitch, and it is leaving hitters extremely confused. Washington Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche was the latest victim when he was caught looking at a 59 mph curveball on Sunday.
LaRoche was called out on strikes when the eephus pitch caught the outside corner. There’s not much a player can do with a 59 mph pitch when he has seen fastballs and sliders all day that are consistently in the 80s and 90s.
Darvish, whose neck doesn’t appear to be an issue, improved to 5-2 on the season with a 2.08 ERA. He struck out 12 batters. Darvish can dominant hitters with a huge variety of pitches.
