Yes, this story is absolutely true and not a joke — Seattle Mariners beer vendor Kevin Zelko is taking orders from fans on twitter this year. CNBC’s Darren Rovell has this great story (which we read about in SI Hot Clicks), about Zelko who hopes that making himself available on twitter (@Msbeervendor) will help increase his business.
From CNBC, “Not only will an ordered beer likely mean a better tip, but [Zelko] also says that fans with smartphones, who are on Twitter during the game, are more likely to have more wealth and therefore have more money to spend.”
See, there’s an ingenuous method to the madness! My only question is how is this guy supposed to do both at the same time. If he’s busy trying to carry beer around the stadium, won’t it be tough to check his phone for tweets? Then again, given some of his beer-selling lines, taking twitter orders is probably the way to go.
Now, the only issue here is that Zelko is opening himself up to pranks. Evil fans can send Zelko running all over the stadium with fake beer orders, though that would just be cruel. This is an awesome idea and shouldn’t be abused — it’s service at its best.
