Ricky Romero blows the biggest gum bubble you will ever see (Picture)

Meet Ricky Romero, professional gum chewer. Over the past two seasons, Romero has emerged into one of the best left-handed starters in the game. As we can see from the photo above, he has also spent a lot of time working on his Dubble Bubble skills.

I’m sure there have been bigger bubbles blown, but that is by far the best in-tact bubble I have ever seen. The accompanying tweet Romero sent out with the picture says that the bubble was made from four pieces of Dubble Bubble gum. The only thing I can think of is that he was chewing them for like an hour so they got stiff, otherwise I don’t know how this bubble wouldn’t cave. Whatever the approach, that’s a bubble to be proud of.

2011 MLB All-Star Game Snubs: American League

Compared to the National League All-Star team, the fans did a poor job voting on the American League team. Most of the reasonable complaints regarding snubs are from the AL team. We already gave you the All-Star Game snubs from the National League.

Here are the American League All-Star team snubs:

Jhonny Peralta over Derek Jeter at SS

This is a no-brainer. The fans vomited on themselves with this one, probably because a) Jeter is so popular and b) most of them don’t know who Peralta is. Asdrubal Cabrera made the team as the backup shortstop and he should be starting. Peralta should be the backup.

Paul Konerko over Michael Young as 1B/INF

Paul Konerko being left off the team is the biggest snub of MLB. He has a .954 OPS which is fourth-best in the entire AL. It’s a joke that he’s not on the team and it’s criminal that Ron Washington stuck him in the fan vote. Instead of carrying three catchers, Washington should have put Konerko on the team over either Martin or Wieters. At the least, he should be there over Young who is good but can’t mash the way Konerko can.

Rima Fakih Questions John Farrell for Pulling Ricky Romero

Earlier this week we let you know that Miss USA Rima Fakih and Blue Jays pitcher Ricky Romero were dating. I have no idea how the two ended up together because it seems like an odd combination, but maybe it has to do with Fakih’s knowledge of the game. No joke.

On Thursday afternoon, Fakih spent part of the day tweeting about watching the Blue Jays on MLB TV on her iPad. Romero was making his second start of the season for Toronto and was throwing a great game against the A’s, shutting them out through seven innings.

Fakih tossed out comments about how Ricky was keeping his pitch count low, and then she got all media reporter on everyone after Romero was pulled in the 8th. “Yes 57 pitches 5 strikeouts…I mean who does that?! LOL he shoulda stayed in the game…come’on Farell,” Fakih tweeted.

She was obviously upset because after Romero was pulled, the 1-0 lead he had went away after Jason Frasor let two runs score and the Jays lost 2-1. Romero had thrown 93 pitches over seven and a third, so he easily could have gone longer but maybe manager John Farrell didn’t think his second start of the season was the time to stretch him.

I don’t know John, maybe next time you should listen to Miss USA and leave your ace in there to clean up his own mess. Just a thought.

Miss USA Rima Fakih and Ricky Romero Are Dating

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Ricky Romero is a former first-round pick out of Cal State Fullerton in 2005, and after several years in the minors he finally was brought up to pitch with the big club in 2009. He had a breakout season last year going 14-9 with a 3.73 ERA and was rewarded with a 5-year $30 million contract extension. With big money comes more exposure, and Romero is taking advantage of his celebrity status.

We got word from Jimmy Traina on Hot Clicks Monday that Romero and Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih are dating. The Blue Jays announcers apparently passed on the news on Opening Day after Fakih was in attendance to watch Ricky pitch. A friend did confirm to LBS that the two are dating after spending time with them in Toronto recently. The news makes them a welcome addition to the always popular athlete-celebrity couple category here at LBS.

Fakih is a contestant on the WWE show Tough Enough while the East LA native continues to pitch for the Blue Jays. Congrats to Ricky on the pull, and let’s celebrate with some pictures.
