Did PK Subban mock blow a kiss to Shawn Thornton? (Video)

PK Subban Shawn ThorntonThere’s always bad blood between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens, but one of the side stories in the Eastern Conference semifinal series between the teams had to do with PK Subban.

At first there were headlines over racist tweets sent by fans about Subban. That was nothing new considering you can find racist tweets pretty much anytime Subban plays so long as you seek them out. But in Game 5 on Saturday, Bruins enforcer Shawn Thornton pressed Subban’s buttons by squirting him with a water bottle. He was fined for his actions, but you better believe Subban remembered it.

Fast forward to Wednesday after the Canadiens won two in a row to come back and win the series. In the handshake line between the teams, Puck Daddy’s Greg Wyshinski thought he spotted Subban mockingly blow one of those “Sup, loverboy?” kisses to Thornton. A stick got in the way, but that’s what it looked like.

And if he didn’t blow a kiss to Thornton, there’s no denying that he planted one on Pierre McGuire:

Shawn Thornton fined for squirting water on PK Subban

Shawn-Thornton-squirtBoston Bruins enforcer Shawn Thornton was fined $2,820.52 by the NHL on Sunday for doing something during Saturday night’s win over the Montreal Canadiens that all of our coaches and parents had to remind us not to do during youth sports — play with the water bottles. With less than a minute remaining in Game 5, Thornton squirted PK Subban with water.

“I obviously got caught up in the moment,” Thornton said, via ESPNBoston.com. “I’ll pay the fine and obviously agree with what the league does there. I’ll pay the fine and move on. I’m sorry that the silly incident kind of overshadowed how my teammates played, the great win and how good the series has been.”

Thornton didn’t seem sorry right after the squirt.

Bruins coach Claude Julien, who declined to comment on the incident after Saturday’s game, said on Sunday that he “can’t support” what Thornton did and that the enforcer will have to own up to it. Subban said that the squirting incident affected his ability to be able to see during the last minute-plus of the game.

“With Thorty, I don’t know if it was him, but someone had squirted water twice at the end of the game in my visor and I couldn’t even see for a minute and a half,” Subban said. “I was pretty upset about that, but that is part of the game.”

Now, children, let’s all play nice.

Video: Shawn Thornton Cut After Taking Skate to Face, Needed 40 Stitches

Bruins forward Shawn Thornton was cut above the eye during the second period of Boston’s home win over Chicago on Tuesday night. Thornton was going for a check on Fernando Pisani when the two collided and fell to the ice, and Thornton was cut by the blade of Pisani’s skate. Here’s a video of the play in case you missed it (the action is about 28 seconds in):

Thornton wasn’t too upset about taking the incidental skate to the face. He was really ticked off over what was said to him by the Chicago bench as he was skating off the ice. He couldn’t reveal what was said nor by whom, but he sure was steamed about it after the game. His team took care of him luckily, winning 3-0.
