Nick Kyrgios crosses line, tells Stan Wawrinka that other player banged his girlfriend

Nick Kyrgios

Nick Kyrgios is an outspoken player who often says what is on his mind, but this time he crossed the line with a crass remark to an opposing player.

Kyrgios was ticked off after dropping the first set of his second round match at the Rogers Cup in Montreal Wednesday 7-6 in a tiebreaker to Stan Wawrinka. A few bad calls from the linesman had Kyrgios fuming, and he boiled over.

At one point, the Aussie said to his Swiss counterpart, “Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend. Sorry to tell you that, mate.”

Kokkinakis is a reference to 19-year-old Australian tennis player Thanasi Kokkinakis. And here is the whole story about the girl caught in the middle between Kokkinakis and Wawrinka.

Luckily it didn’t seem like Wawrinka heard the trash talk line, otherwise we might have seen a fight. The two even shook hands after the match, which ended during the third set when Stan retired due to an injury.

Regardless of how heated things may have been between the two men on the court, there is no call for what Kyrgios did. But it’s that sort of trash talk that makes you think other wild stories like this might be true.

Interestingly, Kyrgios’ brother seemed to back his bro for the comment:

That's what happens when you get lippy. https://t.co/KPgzVSGYzP

While Stan’s coach, Magnus Norman, had this to say:

That was really really low Nick Kyrgios. Hope for u that u have people around that will teach u a thing or 2 about life tonight. Very bad
