If an Unknown Player Makes a Guarantee, Does it Really Count?

Some dude I’ve never even heard of went out on a limb yesterday and guaranteed a Steelers victory over the Patriots Sunday. And no, I’m not talking about some lame caller on a talk show making the claim. It was actually a Steelers player. Homeboy is such a non-factor, the story was introduced with the headline: “Steelers player guarantees victory.” You know why? Because nobody knows who Anthony Smith is! So, to go back to my original question, does his guarantee really count?

I think not. He’s an utter tree in a forest. A second year player. He’s never been in a big game like this. The hell does he know? Just because they’re underdogs doesn’t mean he can just go out making brazen claims, only to fall back on the thought that ‘hey, we weren’t supposed to win anyway.’ Where I come from, you actually need credentials to make such a staunch remark — a sentiment with which Rodney Harrison agrees. The bright side, at least now people know who Anthony Smith is. All he has to do now is pick off a Brady pass or two and return em for touchdowns. Oh, nothing too big. Good luck kid, you’ll need it.
