Aaron Sanchez expects to be a starter for Astros
The Houston Astros had a big trade deadline, but one thing they will have to figure out is Aaron Sanchez’s role going forward.
The Astros acquired Sanchez from the Toronto Blue Jays at the trade deadline, but it’s not clear yet if they intend to keep him in a starting role or turn him into a reliever. Sanchez has not been great as a starter, but many believe his stuff would play up in the late innings.
Sanchez made it quite clear after the trade was made that he intends to remain a starter.
I asked Aaron Sanchez if he expects to pitch out of the ‘pen in Houston:
“I haven’t talked to anybody, but my plan is to be a starter."
Houston, we have a problem.#BlueJays

The situation in Houston is somewhat complicated given that Sanchez is hardly the only pitcher they acquired. Zack Grienke, Justin Verlander, and Gerrit Cole have three spots locked down, and Wade Miley has done nothing to pitch himself out of a rotation spot. That leaves one space left for Sanchez to fill if the Astros see it that way.
