Aaron Sanchez, Joe Biagini combine on no-hitter in Astros debuts

Aaron Sanchez and Joe Biagini made memorable debuts for the Houston Astros on Saturday night.

Sanchez, Biagini, Will Harris and Chris Devenski combined on a no-hitter in the team’s 9-0 win over the Seattle Mariners, marking the second time in a month the Mariners were no-hit. The no-hitter also was the 12th in Astros history and their first since 2015.

Sanchez and Biagini were acquired in a trade with Toronto ahead at Wednesday’s deadline in exchange for Derek Fisher. Sanchez started the game with six no-hit innings. He walked two, hit a batter, and struck out six, lowering his season ERA to 5.76. Harris, Biagini and Fisher all followed with one inning of hitless baseball for the win.

The Astros made the biggest noise at the trade deadline by acquiring Zack Greinke from the Diamondbacks. Their acquisitions of Sanchez and Biagini were much quieter but already proving to be fruitful.

Saturday’s victory not only was historic for Houston, but also made them 72-40, tying them with the Dodgers for the best record in MLB.
