Agent says Jay Bruce would be ‘thrilled’ to play for Giants

Jay Bruce

After swinging a headline-grabbing trade for Evan Longoria this week, the San Francisco Giants could soon be reeling in another prized slugger.

In an appearance Wednesday on KNBR 680 AM, agent Matt Sosnick, who represents Jay Bruce, said that his client would be “thrilled” to play for the Giants.

“Bobby (Evans) knows that Jay, given his choice — he really wanted to play in San Francisco or Houston. Houston made it clear they didn’t have a need for him and a fit. I think it’s a perfect fit for the Giants. We sort of have to figure out the lay of the land and whether it works for the Giants and whether it works for us. I think if Jay ended up in San Francisco, he would be thrilled,” Sosnick told hosts Gary Radnich and Larry Krueger.

The 30-year-old Bruce hit .254/.324/.508 with 36 home runs and 101 RBIs between the New York Mets and the Cleveland Indians last season. He was said to be looking for a big payday on the free agent market, but his agent seemed to dispute that. Sosnick says any reports that Bruce wants $100 million and five years are not true. Instead, he says it’s more about “comfort and family” for Bruce.
