Albert Pujols has been heavily linked to the Los Angeles Angels’ manager job, but he may have a second suitor after all.
The Baltimore Orioles are interested in Pujols for their managerial position, according to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN. Pujols has yet to interview with the Orioles, but that is expected to happen soon.
Pujols has rather limited ties to the Orioles, but they do exist. Baltimore president Mike Elias was a scout for the St. Louis Cardinals during Pujols’ prime seasons with the team. One of Baltimore’s young stars is Jackson Holliday, the son of one of Pujols’ former teammates, Matt Holliday.
The Angels have been heavily linked to Pujols and are still viewed as the favorite to hire him. The Orioles, however, may be a more attractive job, as they have a wide array of young talent and made the playoffs as recently as 2023.
It is absolutely clear that Pujols is a serious candidate to land a manager job in Major League Baseball. At least two teams are interested in him, and more could certainly follow.
Pujols turns 46 in January. He has no managerial experience at the MLB level, but has openly said he would like to manage and has worked in that capacity in the Dominican Republic. He is technically still under contract with the Angels as part of a personal services deal that was part of his free agent signing in 2012.
