Angels GM says team has not discussed trading Mike Trout

Mike Trout Angels

No, folks, Mike Trout is not going to be traded any time soon.

With the Los Angeles Angels off to an 18-22 start and looking nothing like a contender, some outsiders raised the question of whether the team would entertain trading Trout for a huge prospect haul to allow them to rebuild. Perhaps, they reason, the Angels would be willing to move their star center fielder.

So, Angels GM Billy Eppler, has your team taken any calls on Trout?

“None,” Eppler said, via Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

Trout is still just 24. He is under team control through 2020. In early 2014, he signed a 6 year, $144.5 million extension with the team, which is downright team-friendly in the current MLB financial environment. Few teams could afford to take him on while also giving up the enormous prospect haul the Angels could demand. The team simply has zero incentive to try to move him, even if they won’t be good this season.

Besides, moving Trout might break Albert Pujols’s heart, and we can’t have that.
