The Los Angeles Angels have a new closer.

Kenley Jansen agreed to a contract with the Angels on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. The deal is worth $10 million for one season, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

Jansen, 37, spent the last two seasons with the Boston Red Sox. The right-hander had a 3.29 ERA and 27 saves in 54 appearances last season. There was talk early in the year about Jansen becoming a potential trade piece at the deadline, but he remained with Boston through the end of the season.

Jansen was with the Atlanta Braves for a year before the Red Sox signed him in 2022. He was one of the best closers in baseball for the Los Angeles Dodgers for 12 seasons prior to that.

A four-time All-Star, Jansen is only the eighth pitcher in MLB history to have more than 400 saves in a career. He currently ranks fourth on baseball’s all-time saves list with 447.

Jansen should immediately step into his usual closer role with the Angels, who are looking to bounce back from nine consecutive losing seasons.
