Anthony Rizzo has chosen a great jersey to retire in.

Rizzo announced this week that he is retiring from MLB. The former three-time All-Star will be retiring as a member of the Chicago Cubs, and a celebration will be held before the team’s Saturday game against the Tampa Bay Rays to recognize him.

Rizzo shared via X on Friday a photo of the jersey he is choosing to wear on Saturday. The jersey was signed by patients he had visited over the years at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.

“The jersey I’ll be retiring in… signed by all the patients we have visited over the years who were battling cancer,” Rizzo wrote on X.

Rizzo was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2008 and beat it, which led him to become active in charitable efforts aimed at helping children with cancer. His foundation has donated at least $4 million to Lurie Children’s Hospital. The jersey he will be wearing is very fitting.

Rizzo was known as a great teammate and leader — a captain of sorts — during his time with the Cubs. The 36-year-old first baseman played with the Cubs from 2012-2021. He was traded to the Yankees during the 2021 season and played with them through last season.

Rizzo made three All-Star teams, was a four-time Gold Glove winner, and he helped the Cubs win the World Series in 2016 — something that will help him remain a beloved member of the franchise.
