Astros back Carlos Correa despite recent struggles

Carlos Correa

The Houston Astros have not lost confidence in Carlos Correa despite his late-season struggles continuing into the postseason.

Baseball is a sport of ups and downs. Right now, Correa is in the midst of a down period. Since returning from the disabled list in early August, Correa has struggled at the plate. During this year’s playoffs, the Astros shortstop has zero hits in seven at-bats.

The Astros have not wavered in their support of their young star. Manager A.J. Hinch has said there’s “no way” he will lose faith in Correa.

“I know we put so much pressure on this guy, and there’s so much attention on what he’s doing and not doing,” Hinch told MLB.com. “He’s a winning player and can help us win. I think his swing has been good. His results haven’t been there. But there’s no chance that I’m going to lose faith in that, in an at-bat where he comes up that he can’t do something positive. He can do something every single day. The defense has been excellent. His presence matters on our team. I hope the ball’s hit to him every single time.”

The Astros entered the postseason as a favorite to return to the World Series. If they are going to duplicate their success of a year ago, Correa will likely play an important role. It’s only a matter of time before Correa’s bat warms up, and that could happen as soon as Monday.

Houston leads its best-of-five series against the Cleveland Indians 2-0.
