Report: Astros evaluating Brandon Taubman’s job status

The Houston Astros are evaluating the job status of assistant GM Brandon Taubman, according to a report.

Sports Illustrated reported on Monday night that Taubman taunted female reporters after the Astros clinched the AL pennant on Saturday night. In the clubhouse, Taubman reportedly shouted a few times how happy he was the Astros got Roberto Osuna. Osuna was on suspension for a domestic violence charged (that was later dropped after the woman did not cooperate with police) when the Astros acquired him.

The Astros initially issued a statement disputing SI’s report, but they issued new statements a day later after being met with public criticism.

Now, ESPN’s Buster Olney says Taubman’s job status is being evaluated by the club.

MLB is also investigating the situation.

“I think that there will be a conversation with the club at the end of the investigation, as is often the case. We’ll make a decision working with the club as to who should handle it, as opposed to exactly what the outcome is,” MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said on Wednesday. “At the end of the day, he is an Astros employee.”

A report by NPR on Tuesday said that Taubman was targeting one of the women, who expressed concern over Osuna in the past.
