Bo Bichette has started to surface in trade rumors as the New York Mets assess their future. On Sunday, he did not necessarily deny that he would be interested in such a thing.
Bichette has a no-trade clause as part of the contract he signed with the Mets in the offseason. When asked Sunday if he would invoke that clause to prevent a trade, he essentially indicated that he would deal with it when the subject came up.
“That hasn’t been brought to my attention right now, so I don’t have an answer,” Bichette said, via Mike Puma of the New York Post.
Bichette’s situation is made more complicated by the fact that he can opt out of his three-year, $126 million contract at the end of the season. That seemed an unlikely scenario after he struggled to start the season, but he is now hitting .251 with 10 home runs, and that might be a plausible outcome again.
Previous reports indicated that the Mets were willing to consider a Bichette trade, though his contract and the associated no-trade clause makes any deal unlikely.
