Report: Mets feel only Braves, Padres could afford Noah Syndergaard

The New York Mets are still willing to listen to offers for star pitcher Noah Syndergaard, but the organization is of the belief that only two interested teams have the ability to give them the prospect package that they’re looking for.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Mets are seeking an MLB-quality starter plus several top prospects in a Syndergaard trade, and believe that only the Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres can provide that. The Houston Astros have been most aggressive, while the Minnesota Twins have also been engaged, but the Mets appear to have reservations about the quality of their systems.

The Mets are also said to be unimpressed with the New York Yankees’ farm system, making a potential deal unlikely.

All indications are that a trade remains unlikely. The Mets are clearly listening, and the Padres, in particular, have a long-standing interest and could be motivated to make the move, but nothing is imminent.
