Craig Kimbrel remains unsigned despite the MLB season set to begin in Japan, though there is a chance that could be changing.
Kimbrel is in talks with the Milwaukee Brewers, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Robert Murray.
Kimbrel went 5-1 with 42 saves, putting up a 2.74 ERA last season for the Red Sox. The belief is that he has not been signed due to his contract demands. It’s unclear whether he would change his contract expectations with no team willing to pay what he was seeking.
The Brewers’ interest in Kimbrel makes sense. Jeremy Jeffress is beginning the season on the injured list due to a shoulder injury. He was brilliant as the team’s closer last season, and they know how crucial it is to have a strong 9th-inning option.
