The New York Yankees are off to their worst start in years, and if it doesn’t change soon, Brian Cashman made clear that he is going to do something about it.
Cashman told David Waldstein of the New York Times that changes are coming if the 8-15 Yankees don’t fix things soon.
“There’s only so long you can allow it to go on before tinkering,” Cashman said. “But it just needs to stop.
“I’ve done this job a long time and I put this roster together,” Cashman added. “I feel it’s significantly better than it has performed, and when it doesn’t perform up to expectations over the course of time, I have a history of making changes. I would rather not go that route, but when you are forced to do so, you are forced to do so.”
The grim reality is that there’s not a ton Cashman can do, given the money and long-term contracts tied up in many of his underperforming players and a lack of suitable in-house replacements. Chase Headley could be benched, though, in one obvious change.
It needs to be said that things just haven’t been the same since the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles showed up on Opening Day.
