Bryce Harper’s brother Bryan undergoes Tommy John surgery
Bryan Harper, the older brother of Washington Nationals star Bryce Harper, underwent Tommy John surgery this month, according to a report.
The Washington Post’s Chelsea Janes shared the information on Twitter Friday about Harper’s surgery.
Harper also posted this on his Instagram page Nov. 8:
Bryan is a pitcher in the Nationals’ organization. He was drafted by the team in the 30th round in 2011 — a year after Bryce was selected No. 1 overall.
The lefty reliever was having success last season. He was dominant in posting a 1.50 ERA in 24 innings at Double-A in 2016. He also fared well in 21.1 innings in Triple-A, posting a 2.95 ERA.
Janes notes that Bryan had pushed himself onto the big league radar with his successful 2016 season:
Harper, Bryce's older brother, had pushed his way on to the big league radar for the first time this year. Brutal timing for him.

The timing of Harper’s surgery is extremely unfortunate given how much success he had in 2016 and how much of a setback the operation may be.
