Report: Bryce Harper prefers to play on West Coast
Bryce Harper met with the San Francisco Giants this week, adding a new wrinkle to his market — and perhaps an enticing one.
Harper, a Las Vegas native, has never really made clear his free agent preference. However, Randy Miller of NJ.com told KNBR on Wednesday that Harper actually prefers the west coast and isn’t enamored with the idea of playing in Philadelphia.
“It’s going to come down to money,” Miller said, via Taylor Wirth of KNBR. “From what I understand, the Phillies have the most money to spend. From what I heard, Harper is not thrilled with playing there. San Francisco is desirable for him because its close to Vegas.
“He’s trying to get paid, he’s gonna go somewhere he’s happy, and it’s going to be a compromise. If he goes to the Phillies, that’s probably going to be the most money, but he’d like to be on the West Coast.”
That’s good news for the Giants and their sudden flirtation with Harper. It may also be good news for another late entrant into the Harper sweepstakes, but the Phillies shouldn’t be counted out either.
