Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper will spend some time on the injured list with a nagging wrist injury, and his latest comments about the issue may be cause for concern.

Harper was placed on the IL Saturday with the wrist issue due to right wrist inflammation. He told reporters that he has been experiencing wrist pain every time he swings the bat, and that getting hit on the elbow by a pitch recently did not help matters.

Bryce Harper said he’s felt the wrist pain with every swing. Got to a point where he didn’t think it made sense to keep playing through, didn’t want it to cause further injury. Thinks getting hit in the elbow didn’t help. Hopes rest and treatment knocks it out.

Harper was hit on the elbow on May 27 in an incident that caused some controversy. He has played in just three games since then, going 1-for-11, though the lone hit was a home run.

The biggest concern for Harper and Phillies is that he dealt with a similar injury for much of last year. Where Harper played through the pain in 2024, the new approach is to have him sit out for a bit and hope the situation improves. If it does not, Harper’s season might once again become a simple issue of pain tolerance.

Harper’s numbers have been down a bit in 2025. In 57 games, he has hit .258 with 9 home runs and 34 RBI.
