Chris Archer admits trade rumors are ‘unsettling’

Chris Archer

Chris Archer is facing the possibility of being sent packing from the only MLB team he has ever known, and he’s acknowledging that it’s tough.

Addressing the media after Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Orioles, the Tampa Bay Rays righty opened up about the recent trade rumors surrounding him.

“That’s the strangest part,” said Archer of the rumors, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. “That’s why this situation is unsettling, because everything else is pretty much in our control.

“I’ve got the baseball in my hand. And now my career is not in my hands,” the two-time All-Star added. “That’s fine, that’s the business part of it. But that’s why it’s unsettling.”

Trade talks have been heating up in recent days for Archer, who has spent his entire seven-year career in Tampa. Multiple teams are said to have “strong” interest in him, and one in particular may be emerging as a frontrunner.

The 29-year-old is under contract through 2021 and could project as an upper-rotation starter for a contender, making him an enticing trade chip. That’s probably a big part of why Archer is taking these rumors so seriously.
