The Chicago Cubs have been without key utility man Ben Zobrist for much of the season, but manager Joe Maddon suggested there is reason to believe he could play again before the end of the season.
Zobrist, who has been away from the team handling his divorce since early May, may return in September, with Maddon adding that he is “cautiously optimistic” that he will return.

The Cubs had been bracing themselves for the possibility that Zobrist’s season was over. The Cubs fully expect to make the playoffs, and having Zobrist as part of that playoff run would be a major lift to them, especially with the likes of Addison Russell underperforming in the middle of the infield.
