Report: Cubs interested in trading for Andrew Miller

The Chicago Cubs have the best record in baseball, and they’re ready to go for that elusive World Series title by potentially beefing up their bullpen.

According to Bruce Levine of CBS Chicago, one player the team may try to target is Yankees setup man Andrew Miller.

The Cubs have been open about their pursuit of bullpen help, and Miller would be an ideal option. He’s a dominant lefty reliever who has a 1.92 ERA since the start of the 2014 season, striking out 243 and walking just 40 over his last 145.2 innings.

It stands to reason that the Yankees, who are currently 25-28, would consider dealing Miller if they fall further out of contention before the end of July. They have three elite relievers in Miller, Aroldis Chapman, and Dellin Betances, and they made it clear when trading for Chapman that they hoped to keep the three together to shorten games. If the Yankees are not going anywhere, though, they may as well deal from a position of strength, and the Cubs definitely have the young players to make a deal worth considering.
