Dale Murphy’s son Jake proposes after throwing out first pitch
Jake Murphy, the son of Braves legend Dale Murphy, had a big moment in his life Wednesday when he proposed to his girlfriend. Luckily he had some help from the Braves organization in choreographing the proposal.
After hearing that Jake planned to propose to girlfriend Arianne Ingersoll during his family’s trip to Spring Training, Braves president John Schuerholz suggested they stage it around a ceremonial first pitch.
So Jake threw out the ceremonial first pitch before Wednesday’s Braves-Nationals exhibition game to his father, grabbed the mic, called over his girlfriend, and dropped to one knee to ask her to marry him. She said yes, and as the Braves broadcasters pointed out, she put on a customized Braves jersey with “Murphy” on the back before trying on her engagement ring.
“It was really a nice moment,” said Dale. “We really enjoyed it.”
Jake is 22 years old and a tight end for the University of Utah football team. He’ll have some exciting news to share with his friends at school when he returns from his trip.
